Reviews and Testimonials
Becky Doyle, June 27, 2007:
Having known Mike through Abel Solutions I was extremely excited to hear him play. Mike
is talented in the world of the web but I was delighted to hear his talents extended to Irish music.
I asked Mike if he would be so kind as to play at our Wedding reception on what more of
an appropriate day but Saint Patricks - March 17th, 2007. He was a pleasure to work with
from the beginning. He answered all my calls, emails and recommended two other players
along with himself. He discussed all music choices and told me what would work sound
wise on the big day.
Mike was professional and he did an amazing job. He is self taught and an incredible
player of many instruments. Many people at our reception commented on how wonderful
the music was and it certainly brought a little bit of home [Becky is Irish] to our special day. My step
daughter who is about to visit Ireland danced the entire time Mike played. It was a lovely sight.
Thank you to Mike for bringing the talent and the Gaelic to our Wedding. Slainte.
Andi Hearn (Redbird School of Irish Music, Columbia, SC), August 18, 2007:
Mike Simpson is an undeniable asset to the Irish music scene in the Southeast US. I
met him many years ago at an Atlanta music festival and found his music compelling.
Several years and several tunes later, his music is a formidable force: his ornamentation,
rhythm and choice of tunes are exquisite. Mike has an honest and hearty sound in his
music that comes through on every instrument I have heard him play.
I am also impressed that Mike’s music doesn’t end there. He shares his knowledge and
experience generously and easily. I am honored that Mike agreed to come teach at the
2007 SC Irish Arts Weekend: the tunes he taught are quickly becoming Columbia favorites!
